Dr. Bernard McGrane
Bernard McGrane did his undergraduate work at Fairfield University and Die Freie Universitat Berlin, and received his PhD from New York University. His principle fields of study have been sociology, philosophy, anthropology, and intellectual history. Prior to teaching at Chapman University in the sociology department, Bernard taught at a wide variety of universities: Vermont College, Norwich University, Colby College, Cuesta Community College, UCLA, Loyola Marymount, Pitzer College, and UC Irvine. He has studied Tibetan Buddhism under meditation master Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche and transformative education with Landmark Education. Bernard is the author of Beyond Anthropology, Society and the Other; The Un-TV and the 10-MPH Car: Experiments in Personal Freedom and Everyday Life; and This Book is Not Required: An Emotional Survival Manual for Students. He is also featured in two educational videos: The Ad and the Id: Sex, Death and Subliminal Advertising and The Ad and the Ego: Advertising and Identity.
