The Science of Gratitude
Matt O’Grady
September 10–12, 2021
The decision to live a life of gratitude takes an initial leap of faith and a commitment to daily practice. Now, you can discover the science of gratitude that supports what people have intuitively understood. Congratulations on having made the life-changing decision to practice mindfulness and gratitude. Whether you began 10 years ago, 10 weeks ago or 10 minutes ago, you should take a moment to thank yourself for taking all those steps on the pathway to true happiness, joy and peace.
But, there is always more to learn. And that’s why you are here.
Discover the Science of Gratitude
During The Science of Gratitude, I welcome you to learn among your peers — others who have embraced and cultivated a regular gratitude practice — the science behind gratitude. We know by experience that a daily gratitude practice can benefit our health, relationships, work and sleep. However, it’s no coincidence that some who focus on gratitude and mindfulness enjoy the benefits of being able to more easily release stress than those who don’t commit to an attitude of gratitude.
Why? Science! It’s been proven time and again by scientists who study these health-boosting practices that a daily gratitude practice calms anxiety, releases stress and boosts the immune system, while also connecting us to a deeper part of ourselves. Does gratitude eliminate stress? No. We are still human beings who encounter uncomfortable circumstances. But having an emotional toolbox filled with the very important tools of gratitude, mediation and mindfulness, among others, helps us to work through the stress and other negative emotions faster and more effectively. An understanding of why these tools work can deepen not only your understanding of these practices but also help you recommit to living a daily gratitude practice.
How We Will Learn Together
Join me for an exploration of the scientific facts behind why living a grateful life is so beneficial for us — mind, body and soul. We will dig deep into the scientific study of gratitude, which is rooted in ancient wisdom as well as cutting-edge science.
But we will do more than just talk. This is not a lecture but a participatory class where, together, we’ll learn through meditation, discussion and writing about the practices of “Being Thankful” and gentle movement and exercise, how to best apply this wisdom. I promise, you’ll deepen your knowledge of and interest in emotional and spiritual growth. And, you will leave this weekend with a heightened gift of gratitude which promises to support, deepen and expand all areas of your life, physically, emotionally and spiritually.
