Seeing the One World with Two Eyes: A Sufi Experiential Retreat
Elias Amidon
November 22–24, 2013
At this time of year we give thanks for all our blessings, but if, as the Buddhists say, there’s no God to thank, are we just talking to ourselves? If we have been touched by the realization of the non-dual nature of Being, can we still worship? Pir Elias Amidon will guide us in how to vibrantly live the paradoxes of love and emptiness, the Divine and the Unborn, action and non-effort, and how we live simultaneously in time and timelessness, mortality and deathlessness. Our primary focus will be direct experience of the resolution of these paradoxes in our lives, to learn, as Rumi said, “to see the one world with two eyes.” We will explore the essence of Sufi teachings, practices, poetry, and musical meditation while drawing insights from Dzogchen, Zen, Advaita, and the Abrahamic religions. Our goal is the relinquishing of goal-making, learning to live without attachments but nevertheless whole-heartedly, gratefully, and playfully.
