Summer Set-Up and Fall Take-Down Jobs
Welcome to our Tent Season
Join us for a week or more to experience community life at a remote retreat center, and help us with the set-up or take-down of our seasonal tent campgrounds! You’ll enjoy working with a team, outdoors in our mountain meadows and wooded hillsides, practicing meditation, participating in some of our renowned programs, and making new friends.

Our volunteer season starts with tent set-up in late spring and ends with tent take-down in early fall. The summer season in-between has additional volunteer opportunities. If you are interested in these summer volunteer positions please apply here. It is also possible to apply for a summer volunteer transition after set-up ends.
Work requirements
The work involves setting up or taking down our tent villages used as staff and program participant housing as well as three large tents used as dining tent and program spaces. The work is physical, can be rigorous and is completed at an altitude of 8,000 feet. The schedule includes five full days each week with optional meditation, lunch and tea breaks. Weekends are usually free time unless weather affects the work schedule.
Tent season volunteers commit to:
- Minimum 1 week time commitment – It is preferable to participate for several weeks or for the entire program.
- Sundays are arrival and departure days
- Approximately 30 hours of work per week
- 3 – 6 hours hours of community service per week (cleaning or washing dishes)

Benefits:
In addition to the benefits described on our Join-our-Staff page you will also receive program credits in the amount of $200 per week. These can be used for up to two years after your departure to attend most programs at SMC. You may also be eligible to attend weekend programs at no cost during your stay.

While we have a lot of fun, please be aware that the Center is located high in the Rocky Mountains (about 8,000’), the work is physical and rigorous, and we work through inclement weather. Please consider this before applying.
